Application for yes summer jobs program
We have received unprecedented demand for the 2023 YES Summer Jobs Program. We prioritize serving 14-15 year olds, first-time workers, and teens who have acute needs and/or are impacted by forms of structural inequality, regardless of when they apply during our application period. This means that other teens who qualify and apply well within our deadline may still be waitlisted for service.
Additionally, our funding sources have different eligibility criteria, but do not all have the same capacity. Teens living in the Towns of Ithaca or Caroline, or Villages of Cayuga Heights or Lansing, who do not qualify for free or reduced price lunch will likely be placed on a waitlist at this time.

What: The Youth Employment Service (YES) Summer Jobs Program puts about 160 teens to work in the community at over 60 different worksites. Jobs include camp counseling, working with local banks and offices, farming and gardening, working with food and in retail stores, working with children and the elderly, and more! Through YES, teens work up to 120 hours, usually around 20 hours per week over the course of 6 weeks. All jobs pay $14.20/hr.
Who Qualifies: All teens ages 14-20 who live within the City of Ithaca are eligible. Teens ages 14-20, living within Tompkins County who qualify as low-income families *YES funders define low-income as 200% or below of the federal poverty line* are eligible. First time workers living in the Town of Ithaca, Village of Cayuga Heights, Village of Lansing, and the Town of Caroline are eligible. Our priority is to serve teens who are 14-15 years old and first-time workers who can commit to the six week work experience. If you have more than one week of vacation scheduled, worksite opportunities will be limited. Teens with extensive vacations may not be able to participate.
How: You must fill out an application, participate in an interview (which you are responsible for scheduling), and return the documents below no later than May 25th in order to enter our program. If you are hired, you will receive a phone call and/or a job offer letter in the mail. You must call to accept your job, return all required paperwork, and participate in a YES Summer Orientation before you can begin work. You will also have the opportunity to attend a paid Kickstart Training to learn important job skills before your job begins.
NOTE: Space in our program is limited by funding, and you may be placed on a waitlist before the application deadline. Apply early. Across our funding sources, we prioritize serving 14 and 15 year olds, first time workers, teens with acute needs, and teens from historically marginalized communities. We will reach out if your application is placed on a waitlist.
